Linear Accelerator

The W. Temple Webber Cancer Center at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, the only full-service, accredited cancer center in our region, offers expansive treatment and support services for patients with all cancer types in one convenient location.

A critical component in the field of cancer care, innovative treatment technology enables our highly trained and skilled physicians and specialized staff to deliver cutting-edge cancer care.

When diagnosed with cancer, many people tend to think treatment is only available in the large metro areas. But as Lindy Lawrence discovered, radiation, chemotherapy, and genetic testing are just a few of the services offered at W. Temple Webber Cancer Center.

Currently, the cancer center is equipped with two linear accelerators, providing thousands of radiation therapy treatments annually for cancer patients with various diagnoses including breast, lung, ovarian, and prostate cancer. Utilized to treat all body sites with what is known as External Beam Radiation Therapy, the linear accelerators are coupled with modalities such as Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radio-Therapy to provide increased levels of precision and power for treatment of tumors.

To continue to be the local option for cancer care, W. Temple Webber Cancer Center will be installing a Varian Tru-Beam linear accelerator with Rapid Arc Technology to replace the existing Varian 2300 EX Linear Accelerator, allowing us to upgrade to the most current technology available. The installation will require $3 million, a warranted investment to fight cancer in our community. Among the advantages of the new linear accelerator is the significant decrease in treatment time, resulting in more comfort for patients.
